dvd/vcr review 1a September 5, 2010 Joe SC1 (Starkville, MS) Unit did what it said it would do, could have a little faster response time.
Do Not Buy September 4, 2010 Michael Mailley I've owned this for about a year now, it's sluggish and unreliable. It freezes randomly and has to be unplugged to do anything with it. The reason I bought it was it was the only model I could find locally that recorded in DVD-RAM, which is it's only redeeming feature. Not only will I not buy another one of the same model I will not buy another Panasonic DVD player/recorder again.
for your're information August 19, 2010 jeff c Hey everyone . Just a little info i hope will help.I purchased two DMR EZ48VK PAID 289.00 each they lasted about 2 years.Panasonic wants 180.00 with shipping to fix each one! My local electronic repair store want's 288.00 to fix one! Both offer a 90 day warranty.I recommend buying a REFURBISHED one from amazon.com.for 153.00 this is the best deal I could find.It is factory refurbished with 90 day warranty. Why buy another DMR EZ48VK well as much as I hate to give Panasonic any more of my money!I have to say it is the best 1080p DVD recorder on the market! WHEN IT WORK'S! So now that Panasonic has had a few year's to work out the bugs.I will give the DMR EZ48VK one more chance!!
Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK August 15, 2010 Just Don 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this unit to replace a DMR-EZ37VK, thinking that it is almost identical and the learning curve would be better. Unfortunately, some of the same sporatic problems and failures in the 37VK also appear in this product.
1) It often will not record the 2nd program when scheduled recordings occur with the 2nd immediately following the 1st. Stopping the 1st recording with a minute remaining before the 2nd one starts helps but is not the complete answer. It appears that the unit is recording but evidently the disk is not spinning and nothing is recorded.
2) At times, when I power it up to schedule a recording, it is locked up. None of the buttons on the remote work. I cannot turn it off with the remote or the power switch on the unit itself, unless I hold down the power switch for several seconds or unplug the unit.
3) The clock is poor, losing several seconds a day. It will not automatically set from the PBS station and must be manually set once a week, otherwise scheduled recordings get later and later.
4) Otherwise, the features are great and the back panel connections allow great flexibility.
Avoid Purchasing THis Product. August 14, 2010 Bill 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased first one on July 1, 2010. It contained it's tuner but was totally unreliable for DVR recording. Would ignore your recording program schedule. Would freeze and only be powered ON by unplugging and replugging in the AC outlet.
Reported problem to Panasonic multiple times starting July 10, 2010. They finally agreed to have it sent to their repairs center but can only be replaced with a refurbished unit.
Contacted Amazon August 9: They promptly sent me a new replacement unit.
It failed in exactly same way as the original unit.
I'm getting a full refund on the product.
Plans to order a VHS/DVD Recorder from a different manufacturer.
